What is therapy?

Welcome to therapy!

I know for a lot of people, therapy can seem overwhelming or even scary. Just like we go the doctor to take care of our physical health, it’s also very important to take care of our mental health. There are a lot of misconceptions about therapy which can sometimes prevent people from seeking therapy. Most people really find that therapy is helpful and isn’t as bad as they thought once they start therapy.

Therapy is a safe place for you to be able to process your feelings/emotions, work through unhealthy habits/patterns, control/manage symptoms that are impacting you and learn new skills and ideas to help improve those symptoms.

Sometimes it can be difficult to talk with family or friends about these kinds of things so it can be helpful to get another perspective and also see things from another perspective. Therapy isn’t a place where you should feel judged, but instead heard, validated and understood.

Every therapist has their own style and how they structure their sessions. I use a variety of techniques and tools depending on what is best for each client. Some clients may only need short-term therapy while others may need long-term therapy and that’s okay too! There isn’t a one size fits all in therapy. Please keep in mind that these are your sessions, so I will work with you to come up with goals you want to work on and structure sessions according what is most helpful and comfortable for you as the client.
